2016 Yonex U23 & Junior National Championships
Never say Never! That is exactly how our KC TEAM played at the National Championships this year. Nothing and we mean nothing stopped them from going out there to demonstrate to all of Canada what they are truly made of. From our youngest player who is only 10 years of age to our well-established national players, all of them competed with 110% effort. All the while, they are always supporting their teammates in their fight to become the best! This year, we had one of the biggest teams heading to nationals and we hope to continue supporting every player out there to strive for their best. If you say you can do it, we can do it together!! Special congratulations to Sharon Au for Triple Crowning the Junior National Champions in the U15 Category!! Keep it up that fighting spirit KC TEAM, we still got the PAN AMs!!! LETS GO KC!!

THE PROVINCIAL Jr. B CHAMPIONSHIPS! A huge turnout of players and families filling up the three gyms that Humber College offers. Our own KC Team went out there playing the last tournaments of the “B” Series tournaments for this season and they definitely gave it their all. Not only did they show their experience gained through out the season but they also displayed the unwavering support for all their teammates. Players…Coaches…Team…Family… lose together – WIN TOGETHER!
These four words above are not only words that can be found in a dictionary but can be seen in each and every one of our own KC Family/Team members. KC is one unit, we all train together at home as one and when we go out to compete, we go out there to compete together, side by side.
This past weekend, the KC Team demonstrated just that at the 2016 Junior A HP Provincial Championships. No matter how old, how tall or short, male or female, we are together striving for the same goal…TO BE THE BEST WE CAN BE! The players definitely showed their passion and the results of a year worth of training this past weekend. They played like their life depended on it, all the while having the time of their lives. Competing against their peers with everything they got and to see who at the end of the day would be crowned, the best in Ontario!
Everyone played amazingly well and has shown a huge amount of improvement! Thank you all the Coaches for many years of guidance and experience! Definitely thank you the players and families for sticking through the intense training and supporting every player during tournament! All these wins come from a team effort!

2016 Yonex Canadian National College-University Championships
Now most of us would think badminton stops after the junior stages, unfortunately it is far from it! No studies, tests, and exams could hold back an athletes passion of wanting to compete until they cannot compete anymore. Our KC players, knows no bounds. If there is a will, there is a way! This past weekend the College-University National Championships were held in Quebec. Our own Brittney Tam travelled out there with her University of Toronto Team, to see if they could make show the country which School is Top and they did just that! University of Toronto not only came 2nd in the team event but their places took top spot on the podium! Congratulations to Brittney Tam for winning the Women’s Double Event and was the Finalist for Women’s Singles! Keep it up Brittney and Thank You for being a great role model!

15.16 Badminton Ontario Adult Open Championship
IT HAS STARTED!!! The 1st Ontario Championship of the season has taken place this past weekend. The best of the best in Ontario came out to duel it out and compete to see who will have to the honor of being Ontario’s top player of this season! The intensity was as high as it has ever been, demonstrating how Ontario is definitely a powerhouse that the other provinces have to watch out for when it comes to Nationals. Our KC Team went out there and they did not disappointment, showing off their grit and tenacity, taking the matches one at a time! Great job KC Team for competing in the first of many championships and being great role models displaying true sportsmanship! Keep it up KC Team!! Lets do it!!

2016 Yonex Toronto Junior Elite Series
THAT’S A WRAP FOLKS! … or is it? Time just fly’s by when we are having tons of fun training and going all over Ontario or even Canada to compete in tournaments! Feels like it was only yesterday that the 2015-2016 badminton season just started and now we have finished that last Junior Elite Series of the season. This last Jr. Elite Series was held in Toronto at Humber College and it was non-stop action from day one! Not only were there games that kept us on the edge of our seats but a great show of hard work and determination as well. Showing the world that if you put in countless hours of hard work, the results will show! We would like to give Sharon A. a huge round of applause for Triple Crowning at the Toronto Jr. Elite this year as well as everyone who competed and came out to support the KC TEAM!! Weekend of Gold! The Oscars, Jr. Tournament, and The Ontario Masters Championships!! This past weekend the first of many provincial championships went on in Kitchener, Waterloo. This year we added one more to our KC Masters Team and she definitely showed them what the KC Masters Team is made of!! 15.16 BLACK KNIGHT Badminton Ontario Jr A HP Series #7 – Granite – U11 U15 U19
11?? What is 11? KC Team this weekend went out to compete at the 7th Jr. A HP Tournament and did they bring back some gold or what! They won 11 out of 15 of the events, 11 Golds right there, they might have made Leonardo DiCaprio a little jealous when he finally won One golden statue. All jokes aside, the KC Team’s performance was outstanding this weekend, definitely displayed great team work, the U11’s cheering for the U15’s and U19’s and vice versa! Great job guys this weekend!! Traffic jam on the weekend? Well not in terms of vehicle traffic but multiple badminton tournaments being held all over Ontario at the same time. There was the OUA Champions, OCAA Championships, and the 9Th Ontario Jr. B tournament, all going on simultaneously! Starting with the juniors, they didn’t have to travel far to compete this time around but it was definitely not an easy tournament for them. Our players had to bring out their best like in any other tournament and show their opponents their results from the hard training they go through day in, day out. This past weekend we had the honor of hosting the 6th Junior A HP Series of the season at our KC Club. We had 173 participants in 5 age categories, all giving their 100% for that rightful place of being number 1. Over the weekend there were some mind-blowing rallies and some rallies just had people clinching their teeth to how close the games were. There was bundle of excitement and fun throughout the tournament, not only for the players but the viewers as well. At the end, we hope that all the players learned a lot from this tournament and will use it towards their training and future tournaments. Also a big congratulation to Sharon A. for Triple Crowning, not an easy task to pull off but she definitely shows us how to do it!! Lets keep up the hard work KC TEAM!!! GO GO GO!!!

2016 Chicago Junior Tournament
It was definitely an action packed weekend with our players competing not only all over Canada but internationally as well. Minh C went to Chicago on Jan 15-17, 2016 to compete in their junior tournament for the U17 category! Definitely a great experience for our KC Team players to go out and compete not only in our own amazing country of Canada but to test their skills against other players from another country as well! There was not only one tournament happening this past weekend but also TWO Tournaments! Our players definitely showed that they are watching and learning from our senior players who have just played the Toronto Open last weekend and it was astounding. Many of our students went off to Gatineau, Quebec to compete in the first junior national tournament of this year and among the senior players, were a couple first timers that took up the great challenge and went out there to show the nation what they are made of! A junior national tournament is never an easy to compete in, let alone do well in and possibly become the champion but our KC players did just that. They took on this challenge knowing how hard it will be to become the best and many of our players gained a lot of experience from it, some came back with bling! The KC Team was able to use what they learned from the coaches and senior players to demonstrate to the nation that they are more than capable of standing on the national stage! The start of the 2016 seems to be going great for the KC Team so far. Following our KC Teams success from last weeks Toronto Open, there was the first Junior “A” tournament of the year this past weekend. A good hand full of our U13 and U17 players and even some that were playing up an age group went to compete and test their skills out in the New Year. There were definitely some close matches that had many people watching, almost skip a heartbeat from the excitement and fight the players were demonstrating. Their hard work is paying off, Lets go KC TEAM!!! Keep up that fighting spirit!!!

2015.16 Yonex Atlantic Junior Elite Series
FINISHING OFF 2015 WITH A BANG!!!
This past weekend our players took at little trip to the west coast not only to enjoy the fresh lobster and seafood but also to compete at the 2015 Yonex Atlantic Junior Elite. Mixed in with our top regular Junior National Players, we had many players from our club competing in their first ever Junior Elite tournament. It was a great performance from all the players, truly demonstrated the meaning of “KC TEAM”! We hope all our first timers learned a lot from this amazing experience and use it in their upcoming training sessions and camps! Special congratulations to Crystal and Sharon for Triple Crowning at a Junior Elite Tournament!! Big Thank You to our KC Parents for taking care of our players!! Keep up the awesome fight KC Team!!!

On a snowless December weekend our spirited players were off competing at the Jr A HP Series #4 and Jr B Series #6! It was definitely an exciting weekend for all our players, displaying their improved skill and the experience they have learned from the last tournament, resulting in some amazing results that should be reported to the world! 2015.16 Yonex Alberta Elite Series!
KC Badminton Club sends two of our Elite players to attend the Alberta Elite Series! Top player Sankeerth and newcomer from Jiang Su, Shi WenChao, attends the Alberta Elite to play Singles. First tournament in Canada, Shi Wen Chao butts heads with former Chinese team member in the Pre-Quarter stage and falls in 3 sets. Meanwhile, Sankeerth reaches the semi-final stage but unable to convert and places 4th in this National event! Good try boys and hopefully we can take the title next time!
2015.16 Yonex British Columbia Elite Series / World Junior Championships!!
This weekend also includes some more travelling for KCBC going to B.C and Lima, Peru! Top Juniors Clement participated in the Nov 1-15 World Junior Championships Individual and Team events while Sankeerth went to play in the B.C. Elite Series!
Clement had some outstanding games in his Team events which led Team Canada to finish 13th overall! Meanwhile in the individual events, Clement advanced to the 3rd Round but lost out to the 10th seed from Singapore.
Sankeerth also had a great weekend playing the National Elite stop in B.C. Sankeerth advanced to the Finals for the Singles but unfortunately he was not able to take the title this time. Meanwhile in Doubles, he partnered with Top Mixed Doubles player, Toby N, and advanced to the semi-finals and finished 4th overall.
Good job to our players for their step into the National and International events! We hope

KC continues its season in the next competitive B Tournament at the Granite Club. Many players joined in this tournament it was a tough match for many. 2015.16 JR Competitive B Series – KCBC – All Ages
KCBC hosts the next Competitive B Series for the All Ages! It was a great turn-out with over 220 players playing! It was a long two days with players from Ottawa coming as well to play in this competitive B tournament. We had some great results and the students performed really well throughout the tournament! We hope we can continue the trend and make breakthroughs after this tournament for each and every individual! 2015.16 JR A HP Series #2 – Boulevard – U11/U15/U19
KC continues in the second month of the Badminton Season at the stop #2 of the Jr A HP series at the Boulevard Club this past weekend (Oct 16-17). This is the first tournament in Toronto for the HP Series and is the first for most of the players from the Competitive B Circuit who have moved into the HP Series. KC brought home 3-individual triple-crowns that evening and dominated the U11 taking home the triple gold for Boy’s events! KC steps out to the first Canada Junior International event in Alberta this past weekend! With 5 contenders to fight hard for a spot in the Badminton World Federation event! 2015.16 Yonex Quebec Elite Series
KCBC sends out two of our top players to attend the first stop for the Canadian Elite Series including Coach Gifar in his first tournament appearance in Canada! Coach Gifar took home double Gold, winning the Men’s Singles event and the Men’s Doubles event with Student Sankeerth. Student Sankeerth fell short in the Quarterfinals in a tight 3 gamer however, he came back well in the Doubles! Good job to Coach Gifar and student Sankeerth on their first National Elite tournament!
2015.16 Premier Badminton League – October 2015
KC Badminton participates in its first PBL matches this October weekend. KCBC registered 5 teams into the PBL 2015/2016 season. This Sunday, KC hosted 5 ties (10 teams) at our venue to play from 6pm – 10:30pm!! It was a great day of matches. Members and players were all happy to see some great matches that day!
KCBC Team 1 (1st Division) played some intensive and spectacular matches this weekend. KCBC Team 1 consisted of our Coaches and some of our National Elite Team Students. In their match against Thunderbird, a team consisted of former OUA All-Stars and National Champions, it was a great match to spectate but KCBC by far had a great lead. Natalie L played in an intensive 3-set in Women’s singles that showcased her great movement on the court over former Junior National player Fabienne C. Meanwhile, Coach Siswanto cruised through his Men’s Singles 1 against Waterloo Warrior Matt M. Highlight match goes to the Men’s Doubles 1 where Coach Ray and Coach Gifar played Former National Singles player Nathan L and OUA All-Star Allen C. It was a crowd-pleasing match and we saw the effort from the former Canadian National and OUA All-stars but it was no match for KCBC’s Coaches. Coach Damian had a rough match against the Former National Singles player in Singles 2 in a tight 3-set and eventually lost out to him. Coach Eva and Student Crystal had an easy Doubles match and went on to win their Mixed Doubles with Coach Ray and Coach Gifar respectively. KCBC Team 1 went on to win the tie 7-1.
KCBC Team 2 (1st Division) had a rough start in their tie. KCBC Team 2 is comprised of our Junior National players; Clement C, Sam L, Sankeerth, Ace Z and Coach Victor. The girls consisted of team member Jewel H and National players from Granite: Cara D.B. and Sarah G. Their first tie of the season was against the returning Champions Wii Not Fit. KCBC Team 2 unfortunately lost out 2-6 against this team. It was a great opportunity for the players to face such strong competitors. Sankeerth won his Men’s Singles 1 in a 3-set match against rising College star Owen K. Sankeerth then went on to play Men’s Doubles 1 with Ace Z in another 3-set match against former OUA All-Star Jackie Y and compatriot Adwin L. Clement C played MS 1 in a 3-set against Kazys but fell short in the third set. He then paired with Sam L in MD 2 and lost out against Toronto Open MD winner Adam D and OUA All-Star Andrew W. Cara D.B. and Jewel H had another tight 3-set match against former OUA All-star and National player Bethany S and College All-Star Tracy W. For a first-time pairing, it was a great match but unfortunately fell through in the last set. Coach Victor had a tight game with Cara D.B against Jackie Y and Bethany S but was unable to clench victory and the same for Sam / Sarah in the Mixed Doubles.
KCBC Team 4 (2nd Division) had a great experience playing some former Provincial Champions and National players in their first match-up. Team 4 comprised of our Junior players competing in the Junior A circuit. All players are under the age of 15 and hoping to use this PBL to gain some experience. It was a tough match up and the students lost 1-7. Minh and Justin W tried hard to compete but they were no match for experience OUA All-Star Jason M and former Junior National Hadrian L. In WS, Jeslyn C clenched a win against Carin C, former Junior National. It was an impressive match for Jeslyn as she strategized well against her older opponent. In Doubles and Mixed Doubles action, we were no match for the experienced players but atleast we put up a good fight. Hopefully, our young Juniors will learn from this experience and will bring it on in their next match!
In the last tie of the night, KCBC Team 3 (2nd division) played KCBC HP Team, Alpha QQ (2nd division). Team 3 took the tie by winning 6-2. The Team 3 comprised of former players in the University circuit and Former National Player Simon Y. Alpha QQ put up a good fight in all matches fighting for every point. Cody Z and Marina L, Ontario Jr B U19 Champions, took the first win for Alpha QQ against former Ryerson player Andy Y and former York player Peggy L in a tight 3-set. After that, Sharon A, Junior A U15 Top Contender, took the 2nd match and win for Alpha QQ in WS 1 against Rachel N of Seneca College. After that it was a cruise control for KC Team 3 as they swept the remaining matches. Simon Y easily took MS 1 Chris W of Niagara (U19). After that, he partner Rachel N to take on Anson N and Mary W in another easy match in XD 1. Adam C, former UofT Varsity Captain, rusty but still got it, took MS 2 against Heffren L (JR B U19 Men’s Singles #1), in a 3-set match. Heffren and Anson N paired up for MD 1 against Andy Y and Henry L in a 3-set match-up that eventually fell to the experience of the two older players. Anthony C (York U Head Coach), partnered Adam to play in MD 2 against Chris W / Cody Z in a easy two-set match. Chris and Cody were just no match for the defense of the two players. Emily W and Marina L paired up in WD 1 to play in a tight match-up of Rachel / Peggy. It was a long and intensive match but eventually the older pairing took the 3-set match with their aggressive attack.
